Origami
the art of paper folding

Although it was the Chinese who invented paper some 2000 years ago, it was the Japanese who, much later in the first millennium AD, developed the art of paper folding. The actual word origami is composed of the Japanese characters ori (to fold) and kami (paper). Kami also means "god" and the dual meaning may explain why early practitioners dedicated their art form to the deity

The Spanish were amongst the first westerners to adopt the tradition, but by the 1950's many others had followed suit. More recently, a resurgence of interest in Japan has meant the Japanese have quite rightly reclaimed their heritage.
