Ikebana has been practised for hundreds of years and remains very popular today. In contrast to most western approaches, arrangements often tend to be asymmetric.  All sorts of natural materials are chosen for their textures and colour harmonies.  Aesthetically pleasing spaces and natural flow lines are created to form a triangle representing spiritual interaction between earth, heaven and man.  The container is an integral part of the arrangement, with choices of ceramic pottery being popular.
