In 1812, composer Hubert Parry set the words of Blake's poem to music for a "Fight for the Right" rally in support of the Votes for Women campaign. Edward Elgar later improved the score, with the result that Jerusalem emerged as a well known hymn, which has widely been adopted for many a school hymn and, more famously, by the Women's Institute.
