charles rennie mackintosh

[1868 - 1928]

There is currently a resurgence of interest in interior designs based on the styling developed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. His early 20th century art nouveaux minimalist ideas are very much in vogue, as too are the bold colours and striking geometric patterns of his later works which were precursors to the art deco era. However, like many other artistic geniuses, Charles Rennie Mackintosh received only muted acceptance of his talents from his contemporaries, with his work inciting diverse reactions varying all the way from derision to critical acclaim. Although Charles Rennie Mackintosh has left a legacy of design work and inspirational art that is now acknowledged world-wide, he died in relative obscurity with little recognition for a lifetime's achievements.
